Frequently asked questions

Legal

1. Who holds liability when a scan is conducted remotely?
Liability is typically shared across all parties under a formal tri-party agreement. The referring site bears responsibility for patient preparation, contraindication screening, and on-site supervision. The remote radiologist (or teleradiology group) holds professional liability for the diagnostic interpretation. The MRI service provider is liable for equipment operation, software infrastructure, and data transmission integrity. It is essential that contracts explicitly delineate these responsibilities and that all parties carry appropriate malpractice and indemnity insurance.

2. Is the teleoperation of MRI scanners via a remote scanning platform legally permitted?
The legal admissibility of remote MRI scanning depends on the jurisdiction. In markets where OMRIA and similar providers have launched, independent legal opinions from specialist medical law firms have confirmed compliance for both inpatient and outpatient settings. Legal reviews for additional markets are carried out as part of international expansion on a case by case.

3. Are MRI technologists performing scans remotely required to be licensed in the jurisdiction where the patient is located?
Yes, in most jurisdictions. The practice of MRI is deemed to occur where the patient is, so the remote MRI technologist must hold an active local licence. Non-compliance invalidates professional indemnity coverage and exposes the MRI technologist and the referring institution to regulatory sanctions.

Data Security

1. Does the service provided by OMRIA meet data protection and security requirements?

Yes. OMRIA operates in full compliance with applicable data protection regulations, including GDPR. All remote scanning sessions are conducted over encrypted connections, and access to patient imaging data is strictly controlled through multi-factor authentication and role-based permissions. We work exclusively with vetted, qualified MRI Technologists, and with FDA and CE Marked remote platforms, and maintain clear data processing agreements with every health organisation we partner with.

2. Does connecting scanners to the platform require access to our internal network?

No. OMRIA uses secure third-party teleoperation platforms that connect to your scanners via an encrypted internet connection only. There is no access to your internal network at any point, keeping your infrastructure fully protected while allowing our MRI technologists to connect and begin scanning with minimal setup on your side.

3. How is access to patient imaging data controlled during a remote scanning session?
Access is strictly limited to the assigned OMRIA MRI technologist for the duration of the session only. All activity is logged and traceable, and no patient data is stored or retained by OMRIA or the teleoperation platform beyond what is required for the session. Your organisation retains full ownership and control of all imaging data at all times.

Patient Safety

1. How does OMRIA ensure patient safety during remote scanning sessions?
For OMRIA, patient safety is our top priority. Our highly trained MRI technologists follow strict clinical protocols and guidelines during every remote scanning session. Although our specialists operate remotely, they work in close coordination with on-site staff to ensure any patient concerns or emergencies are addressed immediately and appropriately.

2. What happens if a patient safety concern is identified during a remote scan?
If a safety concern is identified, our remote specialists are trained to escalate immediately through established communication channels to the on-site team. OMRIA's workforce operates under clear escalation procedures to ensure that the right personnel are notified and that the patient receives timely care without disruption.

3. Are OMRIA's remote scanning specialists qualified to manage patient-specific safety requirements?
Yes. All specialists provided by OMRIA are fully credentialed and trained to handle a wide range of patient profiles, including those with complex or high-risk needs. We ensure our workforce is briefed on patient-specific protocols and works seamlessly with local clinical teams to uphold the highest standards of care.

Image Quality

1. How does OMRIA maintain high image quality standards when scanning is performed remotely?
OMRIA's remote specialists are experienced in optimizing scanning parameters in real time to ensure diagnostic-grade image quality. By leveraging leading third-party remote scanning platforms, our workforce can monitor, adjust, and validate image output throughout each session, regardless of location.

2. What role does the third-party scanning platform play in ensuring image quality?
OMRIA partners with trusted, industry-leading remote scanning platforms that provide robust tools for image acquisition, review, and quality control. These platforms enable our specialists to assess image clarity and accuracy in real time, flagging any quality issues immediately and making necessary adjustments before the session concludes.

3. What happens if an image does not meet the required quality standards during a remote session?
If an image fails to meet diagnostic standards, our remote specialists will work with the on-site team to repeat or adjust the scan before the session ends. OMRIA's quality assurance process ensures that no substandard images are submitted for reporting, minimizing the need for costly and time-consuming rescans.
